Arts With a Purpose
Sep. 16, 2020 12:00 p.m.
Alison Herron is known throughout Snohomish County as a long-time dance & musical theatre instructor / choreographer, choral director, event coordinator, and performer. She is a former co-owner of Applause Studio (Mill Creek), where she spent many years as Director & Performance Team Coach. Two terms of service with AmeriCorps & Workforce Snohomish as a Youth Career Navigator gave thousands of county high-schoolers a chance to learn from her in their classrooms, including several affiliated with Denney Juvenile Justice Ctr. These worlds came together in early 2017, when she spearheaded the birth of the Arts with a Purpose program inside Denney’s detention unit, where she is now happily employed as a para educator. Alison's many opportunities to learn about the effects of trauma led her to write and self-publish a book on finding healing and hope when struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, especially relating to significant life challenges or illness. "I Have Faith in God and He Has Faith in Me" is available on Amazon.com, or visit www.HeHasFaithInMe.com. |

Senator Steve Hobbs has been a member of the Washington State Senate since 2006. He serves as chair of the Transportation Committee and also serves on the Financial Institutions, Economic Development & Trade Committee as well as the Environment, Energy and Technology Committee. In addition to representing the people of the 44th district, he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Washington Army National Guard and proudly served in Kosovo and Iraq. Based on strong input from his constituents, Senator Hobbs has adopted an expansive policy agenda which includes promoting local job creation through helping small businesses and improving our transportation infrastructure; promoting legislation that holds state government accountable for the dollars we spend; and working with the community to create new and innovative approaches to strengthening our education system. He is particularly focused on expanding programs in our high schools and colleges that will prepare our students for the growing demand in the high-tech industries both at home and globally. Steve is a proud husband and father. He’s been married to his wife Pam since 1995 and together they are raising three boys: Gavin, Truman, and Winston. Truman and Winston are in public school, while Gavin recently enlisted in the Washington National Guard. |

What is it that makes someone a success in business.
Oct. 21, 2020
What is it that makes someone a success in business? What drives an individual to create success? Is it being hit by a “lucky stick” or is it something else? Lorenz started from nothing, a common theme, but founded two companies, ran them successfully and sold them to Fortune 500’s. Through thought-provoking, insightful and engaging stories with real world examples Lorenz provides intuitive practical advice on the fundamentals of life success: seek and seize the opportunities in front of you. Your eyes will be opened to new possibilities at every turn of the page. To Join Our Meeting, Simply Click: |

A Call for Radical Kindness and Fierce Civility
Dec. 02, 2020
To Join This Meeting, Simply Click : Donna Cameron has spent her career working with nonprofit organizations and causes, where she has seen kindness in action and been awed by its power to transform. While she considered herself a reasonably nice person (with occasional lapses into crankiness), she knew that true kindness was a step above. When she committed to a year of living kindly, she learned that it takes practice, patience, and understanding . . . and a sense of humor helps, too. Her book, A YEAR OF LIVING KINDLY: CHOICES THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND THE WORLD AROUND YOU, has been called “Inspired and inspiring … an extraordinary and timely contribution in these troubled times.”

Educational Work in Guatemala
Jan. 20, 2021
Bill Safstrom and his wife, Janet, live in Woodinville. They have three adult children, and one grandchild with another on the way. Janet has an M.Ed and teaches 1st grade in the Snohomish School District. Bill has an M.Ed in School Administration and was a middle and high school teacher and principal for 45 years. The final 21 years, he served as principal of Bellevue Christian High School. Since 2010 he has worked in teacher education at the UW, and at SPU where he continues to work with teacher candidates. Besides soccer, one of his passions is supporting teachers to reach their goals with resources and professional development. Bill’s first trip to Guatemala was to support the administrators at the America Latina schools in Guatemala City and Chimaltenango in 2010. That experience captured his imagination and his heart. Shortly after, he was asked to join the board of the Nicolas Fund for Education. He currently serves as NFE vice president and chairs the education program committee. He has been deeply involved in the development and growth of NFE’s tuition-free middle/high school program at the Colegio Cristiano Nicolas since its founding in 2016. He is also committed to supporting the Mayan teachers in the rural public elementary schools that feed CCN. He has worked with public and private school officials in the Ixil region, and U.S. educators, as well as the CCN staff to provide professional development for up to 150 Mayan teachers a year. Now, after a dozen trips to the Ixil region, he values the relationships he has formed there. He is beginning to understand the deep needs of the region, the resilience of the Mayan people, and the power of education to empower communities and break the generational cycle of poverty. |
