....curveballs are flyin' and we're hitting 'em, trying to at least...one thing that most people didn't know, or are at least getting a better understanding of down here is that you can't plan too far ahead....5 minutes at most....and you just take what comes at you, can't really make budgets or schedules or plans...they work to your disadvantage down here...

we've got walls!! we've got walls...which is cool, great to see daily progress....at the end of each day, the clinic looks more and more like a building....

....we drove out to "sehix", or in english, "the land of the jaguar" the other day....2 hours into the mountains and valleys of the municipality of Chisec, so we could meet with a women's association out there....they are interested in soliciting a project of 20 laminas (corrugated metal roofing) for their houses....most have thatched roofs and would prefer metal roofing....i thought it would be a good experience for those who have only been spending their time in the town of Chisec....because Chisec is a county of 300 villages, 200,000 people, and the town where we are is the county seat.....

....people walk and hike and catch pickup trucks and horses and motorcycles for hours upon hours, even days, to get into town....the villages around the town are the "real Chisec" --- where people are really living like they did thousands of years ago, not much has changed...

....these village visits are a reminder that Chila's mission and vision, once the clinic is up and running and the women's group has their business, will my expanded to include projects for villages....rainwater capture, roofing, other water projects, education, income generation.....sooooo much to do, so many villages, so many people....

....the women of our group, q'ana tz'uul taq'a, came out with us and gave a speech in the village about their work (natural medicines, animal vaccinations, medicine man visits, much more...) and i was very proud of them....they got the word out! about their work....the villagers were very receptive and asked many questions....no doubt we'll see them at future medicine man days (every thursday) where the women pay a medicine man to give consults for free.....a very noble cause....

...a reporter from guatemala city will be spending the next few days with us....interviewing, photographing, etc....and we should be in the newspaper next week sometime....the women are nervous, because i've assured them that they'll be doing most of the talking....getting the word out about their work....taking the credit for our being here....i think it's better that way

we'll be wearing cowboy gear in the background

love you all,
